multiVIEW Locates Inc. is a professional Engineering and Geophysics firm specializing in subsurface data collection, analysis, mapping and management.
For more than 35 years, we have helped project teams develop a better understanding of subsurface conditions by collecting, analyzing and delivering project-specific information. Our deliverables include utility mapping, technical drawings, datasets, reports, interpretations, inspection records and other information developed to support planning, design, construction and infrastructure management.
Operating from multiple locations across Ontario, multiVIEW works with engineering firms, municipalities, utilities, transit organizations, contractors, surveyors, developers and other infrastructure stakeholders.
Our capabilities combine experienced technical personnel, licensed Engineers and Geoscientists, specialized field teams, multiple investigative technologies, data processing, CAD and GIS capabilities, and established quality processes.

multiVIEW evolved from the geophysical consulting division of A-Cubed Inc. in the early 1980s.
The original organization specialized in the research, development and manufacture of airborne Electromagnetic (EM) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems. That technical foundation in geophysics continues to influence how multiVIEW approaches subsurface investigation today.
multiVIEW was performing subsurface utility mapping well before utility quality levels were formalized through the original CI/ASCE 38-02 standard. Since then, the company has completed thousands of projects and expanded its capabilities across Subsurface Utility Engineering, utility mapping, geophysics, CCTV inspection, concrete scanning, hydro excavation, infrastructure records, CAD, GIS and related subsurface investigations.
Our history is important because subsurface investigation is not simply a matter of owning equipment. Different project questions, site conditions, materials and environments require different investigative approaches.

Every investigation begins with a question: what does the project team need to understand, where does it need that information, and to what level of detail?
The resulting scope may involve review of available records, surface feature collection, utility designation, geophysical investigation, CCTV inspection, surveying, vacuum excavation, concrete scanning, CAD or GIS processing, or a combination of methods.

Subsurface investigation is an evidence-based process. The information obtainable on any project is influenced by the project scope, available records, site access, subsurface conditions, utility characteristics and the capabilities and physical limitations of the investigative methods being used.
For that reason, multiVIEW does not rely on a single technology or investigative technique.
Our teams draw from a range of methods that include Ground Penetrating Radar, electromagnetic locating, Frequency Domain Electromagnetics, Time Domain Electromagnetics, seismic methods, resistivity and conductivity testing, CCTV inspection, vacuum excavation and other specialized techniques.
The objective is to select and combine appropriate methods for the project, evaluate the information collected, identify areas requiring further investigation where appropriate, and clearly communicate the resulting information to the customer.
This allows project teams to make decisions based on a more informed understanding of the subsurface environment while recognizing the scope and limitations of the information available.
Technology is an important part of subsurface investigation, but technology alone does not produce a useful project deliverable.
multiVIEW combines field investigation with technical interpretation, data correlation, professional judgment and quality review.
Depending on the project, information may be developed from multiple sources and methods. Records may be compared with observed surface features. Geophysical findings may be correlated with utility designation. CCTV information may be combined with positioning and mapping. Utility information may be incorporated into CAD or GIS deliverables. Targeted exposures may be used where additional verification is required.
Where information is incomplete, conflicting or subject to investigative limitations, those conditions form part of the technical understanding of the project.
The goal is not to imply that every subsurface condition can always be determined.
The goal is to develop, document and communicate the information reasonably obtainable within the defined scope of investigation so that the customer understands both what has been identified and where additional investigation may be appropriate.

Training includes discipline-specific technical development as well as programs such as ORCGA Damage Prevention Technician training, Electrical Safety Authority training, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights and other training applicable to the work being completed.
