Our RoadMap service is a ground-coupled, high speed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) solution that examines subsurface conditions on roads and bridges and delivers insights into deterioration, cracking, delamination, corrosion and other factors that may otherwise remain undetected. It reveals subsurface anomalies at the inception stage, before they become a threat to structural integrity.

Achieve high resolution data without the hassle of traffic control. The ground-coupled technology yields extremely high quality data which is collected at posted speeds, often reducing or completely eliminating the need for traffic control. After the information is captured, it’s incorporated into geo-referenced maps combined with a signal amplitude index that illustrates areas of potential deterioration. This can then be transformed into a valuable layer for a CAD or GIS system.

Some of the benefits of High-Speed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) include:

  • Detect threats to structural capacity early on. A ground-coupled GPR survey picks up on defects and wearing that may otherwise remain undetected. This includes subsurface cracks, voids in the concrete, rebar corrosion and deterioration. Stakeholders can also visualize the location of post tension cables and other subsurface features.
  • Reduce the need for costly destructive testing. Common field investigations often rely on discrete, widely spaced sampling and it’s assumed that data residing between samples is consistent, but this is not always the case. GPR fills in these information gaps without compromising structural integrity. Locations for destructive testing can be targeted to areas of distress.
  • Record digital data for future use. Each time a condition survey is completed using GPR, subsurface inspection data can be added to a digital record to be referenced years down the line. This makes it possible to create a predictive model of changing conditions while supporting a better understanding of lifecycle costs, causes of deterioration and the effectiveness of maintenance efforts throughout the aging process.
