Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)

We’ve performed SUE projects long before it was a recognized civil engineering practice in Ontario. Our tried and tested methodology is based on decades of progressive experience that assures clients receive the highest standard in quality subsurface utility data and visual maps that fuel strategy development, the engineering design process, and construction efficiencies.

Establishing the nature, depth, location, orientation and dimensions of buried utilities within a future construction site is critical to producing solid engineering designs. Accurate utility data plays a major role in mitigating unanticipated development redesigns, project delays and various other unforeseen conflicts. That’s where multiVIEW’s Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services come in.

We used to rely on disparate data to gain an understanding of subsurface assets. Whenever a change would occur, the area would be re-surveyed and data would be stored in various formats. By applying Subsurface Utility Engineering, we’ve created a database of high quality data that can be used by future contractors for years to come.

Expertise that Adds Value

At multiVIEW, we effectively manage the risks associated with underground utilities. We boast an excellent reputation that comes from more than 30 years of experience in utility data collection, mapping and management services. As a trusted leader in the industry, we are a recognized, prequalified vendor with many cities and municipalities across Ontario, as well as some of the most recognized developers in the industry.

Highest Standards in Quality Information

Our SUE practice is governed by CI/ASCE 38-02 Standards which provide the benchmark for the integrity and quality of utility data collection. It provides a framework for evaluating the integrity of data based on four Quality Levels (Quality Levels D, C, B & A), dramatically improving utility information reliability.

With a strong focus on QA/QC and our extensive experience using a variety of non-destructive geophysical investigation techniques, including ground penetrating radar (GPR) and vacuum excavation trucks, our engineers and surveyors will effectively verify the existence, condition and exact location of underground utilities.

Unparalleled Project Management

Combining our expertise in civil engineering, geophysics and surveyance, we’ll recommend and manage the best level of investigation effort based on the complexity of the site and specific needs of each client. We’ll handle all tasks involved in your SUE investigation, including utility coordination, surveying, designation, location, assessment, mapping and professional deliverables that report on the utilities in the project site for the quality level investigations achieved.

The map outlines the locations of the underground utilities located along each roadway as lines in their respective universal colour code. Green lines for sewers, blue for water lines, yellow for natural gas and red for electricity.

The multiVIEW Advantage

01

A highly qualified team of professionals

We’re authorized by the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) in addition to the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO). We offer P.Eng and P.Geo oversight on all project processes and deliverables.

02

Tried and tested project methodology

Our project methodology is based on over 30 years of experience in project planning and coordination. A focus on QA/QC ensures timely delivery, completeness of in-field area coverage and the production of high quality visuals and reports.

03

Self-performance capabilities

We’re able to self-perform all four SUE quality levels including QL-A “daylighting.” Minimizing or eliminating the need to manage subcontractors decreases risk and the possibility of project delays.

04

An investment in continuous training

Our highly trained technicians undergo various levels of training including ORCGA Damage Prevention Technician (DPT); Certified Project Management; Confined Space Entry (CSE); Rail Safety and Electrical Safety Authority (ESA).
