multiVIEW Expands Presence in the Nation’s Capital
Mississauga – May 9, 2014 – multiVIEW, a leading professional services firm that specializes in near-surface geophysics today announced that it has expanded its presence in the National Capital Region (NCR) to meet rising demand for utility locating, subsurface utility engineering and infrastructure inspection.
The company has had a local presence since 2008 and has worked on hundreds of large scale projects across the National Capital Region including mapping subsurface conditions along stretches of Highway 417. They recently opened a Kanata-based facility and added capacity to mobilize more quickly and bring long term employment opportunities into the region.
“With construction on the rise in Ottawa and a focus on sewer and road upgrades, it’s an exciting time to more actively join the marketplace,” said Kevin Vine, President, multiVIEW. “We’re increasingly seeing large construction projects benefit from the incorporation of non-destructive testing and are looking forward to further expanding these services in the City.”
In the late 80s, multiVIEW evolved out of a geophysical consulting firm that specialized in the development of new airborne Electromagnetic (EM) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems. Today, the company is a full-service geophysics firm specializing in a number of geophysical technologies and techniques including Time Domain Electromagnetics, Seismic Reflection/Refraction and Magnetometry.
A large portion of multiVIEW’s work is comprised of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) which is beginning to gain traction in Ottawa as an integral part of the planning process for construction projects. It’s a branch of engineering that was originally shaped by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Standard 38-02 and has recently been reinforced by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) S250. multiVIEW has been conducting subsurface mapping since before the ASCE standard was first introduced.
“For a SUE project to be successful it has to be integrated and this is a key differentiator for us,” said Vine. “We manage every step of the process in-house which saves our customers hassle and provides them with the best possible results.”
multiVIEW also works extensively in private utility locating, bringing a range of technologies to projects to locate even those buried assets considered untraceable such as PVC or cement pipes. Infrastructure inspection is another key service offering: the company leverages ground coupled Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to capture subsurface data along roads and bridges at highway speeds, often without the need for road closures. This service has been carried out on many Ottawa-based roadways and demand is expected to increase.
“Using non-destructive technology, we’re able to capture subsurface data across vast areas on roads and bridges,” said Vine. “This is extremely useful for new construction as well as rehabilitation projects because it provides added insight when assessing conditions and identifying potential concerns. It also minimizes the amount of intrusive testing required.”
